Teach-ins took place at universities during the Vietnam war. A professor would lead a discussion about the current controverisal issues that were taking place as a result of the Vietnam war. These talks would allow the professors of the universities to inform the students of what was acutally going on overseas. At the beginning of the war, since Americans wanted to keep a positive attitude, the media tried and portray the war as good in order to gain more support. Therefore, when the war first started professors felt that their students had a right to know what was actually happening to their family, friends and other citizens of America. It was extremely refreshing for the students to learn about what was actually going on in Vietnam as oppose to what the American government wanted Americans to think was happening. These teach-ins sometimes resulted in massive protests on campus. Sometimes unfortunately these protests would turn into riots, like the Kent State Shootings. The students of America just wanted to voice their opinions to the rest of the country and because they are only college students the only way they could think of was to hold marches and protests.
